Calprotectin'Alert – a test for intestinal diseases

Calprotectin’Alert is a rapid immunodiagnostic test for detecting calprotectin in stool when its concentration exceeds 50 μg of calprotectin per gram of stool. Calprotectin is the main protein found in neutrophils—cells that appear at the site of intestinal inflammation. Elevated levels of calprotectin in stool indicate intestinal diseases.

The calprotectin test serves as a screening test when inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), or colorectal cancer is suspected. The calprotectin test helps distinguish irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), thereby avoiding the need for an invasive colonoscopy.

The Calprotectin’Alert test should be performed if symptoms such as diarrhea, weight loss, abdominal pain, bloating, changes in bowel habits, or visible blood and mucus in the stool occur. The test can also be performed as part of colorectal cancer screening.
